(NEW YORK, NY) – Hasan Piker is a Democratic Socialist Twitch streamer with about 40,000 average twitch viewers per stream. The New York Times says he’s not the Joe Rogan of the left, and they’re right (to some degree). But why do people really, really hate him?
The Answer, while clear to this author, is frankly stupid.
New York City and Turkey, which as Eric Adams has clearly not demonstrated have a connection, may be a part of it.
New York City is one of the largest and most influential places in the largest and most influential nation in the world. It is not the only large and influential place or city, and it is not the center of the world, as we do live in some sort of multipolar world that allows for conflict across nations and cities. However;
We at the Radical Times find oftentimes that when we demonstrate opinions and ask “questions” that engagement in our articles and media increase with great speed and fortitude. That being said, I wouldn’t say that memetics or the repetition of ideas until someone understands it to the fullest extent possible, is the reason for Hasan Piker’s great success ( although, it should be clear that parasocial relationships are bad).
Zohran Mamdani, has won an election that will change the relationship between the user of the internet, worldwide, and the political.
Mamdani has over some period of time allowed himself to better the framework of popular social media, like TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter (formerly X); to an extent as to which its users have found confusing, if they use it so much that they cause undue harm and influence to themselves.
So the real question about why Hasan Piker is so successful at doing livestreams and capturing an audience of the youth is not that he is particularly smart, (although most people will think that he is), but rather that he is the product of the means of dialectical change, just as AOC, or Mamdani were when they made the inflection points of history. We live in times that are bad, History affects itself in a manner which amplifies history. Tony Benn and other influential figures of the left have allowed themselves over time to bend the arc of history towards the sides of progress, however figures like these are also products of capitalism to the smallest extent.
When we review books like the Odyssey, the Iliad, and modern books like “Love, Simon” which hold a great deal of influence among the personal– Capitalism allows itself to be reinvented. It is not the goal, nor should it be the goal of those who make change and those who implement change to make the world a better place because the world is as it is. Capitalism cannot be made to reflect on itself, just like an Artificial Intelligence, or an abusive relationship can make one reflect upon their own struggle and destruction. The left has been losing in the past 2-3 years because we refuse to accept what is our own and what is not ours. When we find that we are right we become further self-referential and less philosophical, we disregard the point of our movement because our movement is meant to be the means and not the ends. The left finds itself often in the position of reflection because capitalism has forced us into it. Donald Trump is not a capitalist, he is not a genius, he is a fascist with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. We find ourselves in times of hopelessness because our times are hopelessly bad.
But this means that we must bring about change in the left and change in ourselves in order to reveal the essential aspects of our souls. We are not individuals under capitalism because we have broken ourselves with technology. The world is starving for innovation and change and yet capitalism gives us crumbs and makes ourselves reject enlightened debate. Capitalism is the means of our destruction and socialism is the end. What Trump has done is not even capitalism (in the traditional sense), what he has done is the destruction of the human. Mr. Trump is a person, but he is devoid of soul and anger. He will continue to destroy America if we let him, let’s hope he can never do anything of the sort ever again.
