Marjorie Taylor Greene — What's Up With Her And The "Freedom" Gang?

Milledgeville, GA — Marjorie Taylor Greene, the alt-right populist representative of Georgia’s fourteenth, has become increasingly popular for all of the wrong reasons. Whether it be that one time she got physical with Lauren Boebert (another alt-right wackjob, this time from Colorado’s third) in the capitol bathroom, the fact that Russian state TV covers her in an objectively more positive light than US Media, her tendency to heckle during the State of the Union (There’s been three under the Biden Administration now, and she’s heckled each and every one of them), or her bigoted conspiratorial rhetoric that casts shade on Jews, Black people, Transgenders, and Homosexuals, it’s hard to check your newsfeed in the morning and not stumble across Moscow Marge being a lunatic. Let’s look over some of the things Mrs. Greene has said during her tenure as a United States Representative, her alt-right “populist” rhetorical style, and what it means for the Republican House Conference.

The Congresswoman is very keen on obstructing anything that doesn’t benefit her and her caucus from moving forward in the house, despite the fact that her (former caucus is a very slim portion of the 435-member body as a whole. The Freedom Caucus, which holds 41 out of 435 seats, is inarguably the most right-leaning caucus in the House. The membership, which includes (but is not limited to) Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, Bob Good, Anna Paulina Luna, and Jim Jordan, is infamous for its inability to listen to logic and reason, rampant conspiratorial rhetoric, and severe misconduct in professional settings. Many Representatives have stated that the Freedom Caucus is the most annoying, obstructive, obscene, and disruptive caucus in the entire chamber, many pointing out Marjorie herself as the single-most disruptive member, a title which she shares with Rashida Tlaib. The Freedom Caucus is responsible for the election and vacation of Kevin McCarthy, the attempted election of Jim Jordan, Tom Emmer, and Kevin Hern, and the eventual election of Mike Johnson, who is now being threatened with a motion to vacate by — you guessed it — Moscow Marjorie. While it has been stated the motion to vacate will not go to the floor, Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has claimed several times that according to an anonymous source, two moderate Republicans will resign if the MTV hits the floor, effectively flipping the house to the Democrats. If that happens, Joe Biden will have a trifecta government.

While submitting a motion to vacate the person you helped get the position in the first place is dumb, the reasoning is even worse. She claims that Mike Jonhson “...Broke Republican promises” (he didn’t violate any of the promises he made) and broke a rule that requires the Speaker to give Representatives a 72-hour review period on any sort of legislation before it comes to a vote. The spending package, which is the bill Miss Gangr- sorry, Miss Greene is so upset about, passed the Senate and the House resoundingly, and went on to the President, where he signed off on the $1.2 trillion. The bill passed the Senate 74-24, and the House 286-134. Of course this pissed her off, but who cares? Karma’s a b*tch.

Anyways, moving on. MTG is known for her apparent hatred towards any and all minorities, so let’s look at some examples. A favorite of mine is the Jewish Space Laser theory, in which she asserts that Jews control the world via space lasers. Just a few days ago, she brought this theory back to life, introducing an amendment to a foreign aid bill that would provide ~$26 billion to Israel to fund…”Space laser technology” to deploy on the Southern border of the United States.

Yeah. That speaks for itself.

When she isn’t talking about Jews, she’s talking about gay people. One time, she went as far as to call a California State Senator a “groomer”, upon his assertion that the word has become a right-wing Anti-LGBT buzzword, rather than serving its actual purpose to describe an adult that forms relationships with children to later abuse them, mentally and sensually. Another time, she went on a preposterous rant in which she stated that heterosexual (straight) people will be “extinct” within 150 years. Wild assertions like these, those of which she’s infamous for worldwide (Mostly the United States and Eastern Europe), are what have catapulted her into the spotlight. Her disgusting, obscene anti-everyone-except-white-straight-nationalists rhetoric has brought her down, and the entire House with her. This Congress, the 118th, has passed 21 public bills. The 117th, from 2021 to 2023, passed ~320. These numbers would be fine if we were just starting out with this Congress, but all House terms expire in January of next year, meaning there’s less than a year left of the 118th Congress. A lot of this can be attributed to Marge and her squad, who have obstructed many important pieces of legislation and other, less important items. When you have congresspeople throwing fits and refusing to do their work because something didn’t go their way, it’s almost like you have a bunch of toddlers, rather than a bunch of experienced adults, working in Government.

Now, I could go on and on with this heavily biased bash session against Marjorie Taylor Greene, but let’s just take a moment and think about the fact that at any point in time pre-2010 in our nation's history, this kind of behavior would have been unacceptable. People like Matt Gaetz, Anna Paulina Luna, and Marjorie Taylor Greene would have had no place in government if people had caught wind of what they were up to. But they’re here, and they’re louder now more than ever.  It seems that so-called populism has taken on a new form. It’s went from a set of policy with a rhetorical style attached to a rhetorical style with no set of policy, rather a word used by right-wing nationalists to signal that they hate the establishment and that they’re “outsiders”, which is a good campaign trick, but truth be told, by the time you win your first campaign, you’re no longer an outsider. If you’ve lived in Washington for four years, you are no longer an outsider. These tactics, usually employed by the new and “improved” (downgraded) Republican party, are beginning to lose their grip on everyday Americans, just as they began to take shape. A few comments we gathered from an anonymous citizen (a moderate Reagan Caucus Republican) further solidifies the latter:

“MTG is, well, a blight on the party, to be courteous about it. She’s a great punching bag for Democrats, and her antics, especially in this Congress, have been a bane on our attempts to actually get sh*t done.

It’s too early to speak about Trump’s new RNC in terms of results, but I fear it’s just going to become a cash cow for his legal trials when we have limited funds & contested Senate races.

The [false populism] tactics have given us near consistent Dem overperformances since 2016 and traded the affluent, high-propensity, suburbs for lower-propensity, rural voters, who are less likely to donate.”

As can be seen above, while Margie and her gang concoct false narratives and misuse nearly every word in the English dictionary, people are growing tired of her and her kind. While she resides in a safe Republican district, with a Cook PVI rating of R+22, her re-election campaign is synonymous with the worst showing for a Republican in the district’s history, her only garnering 65% of the vote compared to the 74.7% she was elected with in 2020. May that serve as a reminder to all that no one is safe in their seat. You can put them in just as easily as you can take them out. Every. Single. Vote. Matters.
